At What The Wax, all our products are handcrafted using 100% vegan‑friendly soya wax and high‑quality oil‑based fragrances. We take great care to create beautiful, long‑lasting scents, and it is equally important to us that you use them safely. Please read and follow these guidelines carefully to enjoy your products responsibly.
🕯️ Candle Care & Safety

✅ Before Lighting

• Trim the wick: Always cut the wick to 5mm before every use. A longer wick causes large flames, soot, smoking, and uneven burning — keeping it trimmed ensures a clean, steady burn.

• Remove packaging: Take off all labels, wrapping, and protective covers before lighting.

• Choose a safe spot: Place the candle on a stable, level, heat‑resistant surface (e.g. ceramic, stone, or a heat mat). Never place directly on polished, painted, varnished, plastic, or wooden surfaces, as heat may cause damage.

• Keep clear: Position away from drafts, windows, fans, curtains, bedding, clothing, books, and other flammable items. Maintain a minimum distance of 30cm from walls, furniture, and other objects.

• First burn rule: Allow the wax to melt all the way to the edge of the container on the first use. This creates a “memory burn” and stops the candle from tunnelling, ensuring it burns evenly every time.

✅ While Burning

• Burn time limit: Do not burn for longer than 3–4 hours continuously. Extended burning can overheat the container and reduce fragrance performance.

• Never leave unattended: Always extinguish before leaving the room, going to sleep, or leaving the house.

• Keep out of reach: Ensure candles are placed where children and pets cannot reach or knock them over.

• Do not move when hot: Never pick up or move a lit candle or one with liquid wax — hot wax can cause serious burns.

✅ When Extinguishing

• Extinguish safely: Use a candle snuffer, or gently dip the wick into the melted wax then straighten it back. This reduces smoke and stops hot wax from splashing.

• Never use water: Water will make hot wax splatter violently and may crack the container.

• End of use: Stop burning when only 10mm of wax remains at the bottom. Burning lower than this can overheat the container and create a fire risk.
🧡 Wax Melt Care & Safety

Our wax melts are made from vegan‑friendly soya wax blended with premium oil‑based fragrances — they deliver a strong, consistent scent when used correctly.

✅ How to Use

• Use correct equipment: Only use in a purpose‑designed, well‑ventilated wax burner or warmer — either electric or tealight‑powered.

• Do not overfill: Place 1–2 pieces of melt into the dish, enough to cover the base without spilling when melted.

• Never add water: Our wax is oil‑based. Adding water will cause bubbling, splashing, and hot wax to spray out.

• Choose the right heat source: For tealight burners, use only standard, unscented tealights. Do not use extra‑long or high‑heat varieties, as these can overheat the burner.

✅ Position & Operation

• Stable surface only: Place on a flat, sturdy, heat‑resistant surface.

• Safe distance: Keep at least 30cm away from walls, shelves, curtains, furniture, electrical items, children, and pets. Avoid placing near doorways or walkways.

• Never leave unattended: Do not leave a lit tealight or switched‑on electric burner unsupervised.

• Hot surfaces warning: The dish and surrounding area become very hot. Do not touch or move until fully cooled.

✅ Changing & Disposal

• Let it cool: Always allow wax to harden and the burner to cool completely before moving or changing the melt.

• Easy removal: Once solid, gently flex the dish, push from underneath, or place the burner in the fridge for 10–15 minutes — the wax will pop out easily.

• Dispose correctly: Never pour hot wax down sinks or drains — it will solidify and cause blockages. Dispose of cooled wax in your general household waste.
🐾 Usage Around Animals

We understand how precious your pets are, and we want you to enjoy our products safely alongside them.

• Ventilation first: Always use candles and wax melts in a well‑ventilated room. Good airflow helps disperse fragrance and fumes evenly, preventing heavy concentration in enclosed spaces.

• Check suitability: While our products use vegan‑friendly soya wax and quality oil‑based fragrances, every animal has different sensitivities. If you are unsure whether a specific product or fragrance is safe to use around your pets, please contact us first. We can share details of ingredients and scent profiles to help you choose safely.

• Prevent ingestion: Keep all candles, wax melts, and packaging well out of reach. Never allow animals to lick, chew, or ingest any part of our products. Even natural ingredients can cause stomach upset or internal blockages if eaten.

• In case of ingestion: If an animal does ingest any wax, wick, or packaging, contact your vet immediately. Do not wait for symptoms to appear — seek professional advice right away.

• Watch for reactions: If you notice unusual behaviour, sneezing, coughing, or lethargy while using a product, extinguish or turn it off, open windows, and ensure fresh air circulates.
⚠️ General Safety Guidelines

• Not for consumption: These products are for fragrance and decorative use only. Keep away from food, drink, and food preparation areas.

• Skin & eye contact: If hot wax touches skin, rinse the area under cool running water for several minutes — do not rub or peel the wax. If wax gets into eyes, rinse gently with cool water for at least 10 minutes and seek medical help if irritation continues.

• Storage: Keep in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight, radiators, or extreme heat. This prevents softening, colour fading, and fragrance loss.

• Inspect before use: Do not use any product if the container, dish, or glass is cracked, chipped, or damaged.

• Surface protection: Even with correct use, heat can affect delicate finishes. Always place burners and candles on a heat‑resistant mat or coaster.
